In the to be published quote book I obviously begin on January 1st, but since I am providing a sneak peak here I will stay focused on the seasonal/elemental connection into Summer/Fire.

The summer solstice is the first day of summer in the northern hemisphere, and is when the sun’s apparent position in the sky reaches its northernmost extreme. It falls on June 20 or 21.

Summer is the time of heat, warmth, and is the element fire. Fire is a creator and a destroyer. It is passion and renewal. For humans, fire is the greatest of tools, but only when controlled. It is fire that allows us to see our world, be it a campfire, a flickering candle, or our sun. Summer is adulthood, maturity, and finding our place among others. Summer is pleasure, relaxation, and the surmounting of obstacles. It symbolizes a comfort in who we are.

So in this special summer moment let us find a quotation that exemplifies some of this power.

“Lord, lock me up in the deepest depths of your heart;
and then, holding me there, burn me, purify me, set me on fire, sublimate me,
‘Til I become utterly what you would have me be,
through the utter annihilation of my ego.”
