Mother’s Day, horses, Preakness. In the midst of horse racing and before the second race of the Triple Crown and saluting moms everywhere near Mother’s Day let us find quotes about both. My mom passed in December immediately after Christmas. The first quote sums up eloquently how I feel.

“I love you every day.
And now I will miss you every day.”
~~Mitch Albom

“The one thing I never questioned about my mother was whether she loved me.”
~~Lorna Luft

“Their land is full of horses,
There is no limit to their chariots.”
~~Isaiah 2:7

“That little grey-haired lady
Is as old as can be,
Yet once she was a little girl,
A little girl like me.
She liked to skip instead of walk,
She wore her hair in curls;
She went to school at nine, and played
With other little girls.
I wonder if, in years and years,
Some little girl at play,
Who’s very like what I am now,
Will stop to look my way,
And think: “That grey-haired lady
Is as old as old can be,
Yet once she was a little girl,
A little girl like me.”
~~(The Little Old Lady)
Rodney Bennett

“And I looked, and beheld a pale horse:
and his name that sat upon him was Death, and Hell followed with him.”
~~Revelations 6:8

“It may be possible to gild pure gold,
but who can make his mother more beautiful.”
~~Mahatma Gandhi

“Mother’s love is peace.
It need not be acquired,
it need not be deserved.”
~~Erich Fromm

“Don’t ever call me a jockette.”
~~Robyn Smith (Female Jockey)

Little girls love their horses, and they love their moms. Little girls turn into women who still love their moms and perhaps still ride. Some of these ladies may even become jockeys, and I guarantee calling one a “jockette” would be a big mistake. I’ve been told that Julie Krone, a famous female jockey was no one to mess with. Julie Krone is a mom too, so she deserves a Mother’s Day shout out.
