The FBI needs non attorney as new Director. I served two decades as an FBI Special Agent, and while I usually reserve this space to discuss uplifting things, I cannot remain silent about ousted Director James Comey. In my book “A Broken Badge Healed? The FBI, a Special Agent and the Cancer within Both“, I try to suggest solutions for FBI problems based on my experience fighting cancer.

I discuss Bureaucracy, Racism, Lazy Employees, and former Director Robert Mueller III’s policies that hampered independent thought. Among Agents Mueller was derogatively referred to as “Bobby Three Sticks” because of his arrogance and disregard for others’ opinions, and the three III’s that followed his name. WHEN WILL WE LEARN. I must weigh in on Comey’s firing, but more importantly the selection of a new Director.

The FBI (especially Headquarters) while laden with bureaucracy, dead weight, and incompetence, is a breath of fresh air, innovation, and intelligence compared to the Department Of Justice. My experience with DOJ was that they were self-protective, arrogant, and filled with unauthorized leaks. Ousted Director Comey made plenty of mistakes in the Hillary Clinton probe and the Russia Trump link. How successful Comey was should clearly remain open for public comment and scrutiny. However, as I point out in my book—WHAT IS THE LESSON WE CAN LEARN? Here is my take:

I don’t much care that Comey was fired. Please let’s just hire someone good. Please hire a law enforcement type as the new Director; not another DAMN attorney. Hell, hire a terrorism expert, a big city police chief, or a civil rights leader. Just DO NOT HIRE ANOTHER ATTORNEY. Give the FBI a chance to protect this country from enemies foreign and domestic, and do not hamstring it with another “legal eagle.” Let your feelings be known.
