Best U.S. Short Film at LIFF.

BEST U.S. SHORT FILM - Laughlin IFF - LOVERS 2017I’m so happy to announce that at the Laughlin International Film Festival (LIFF) our short film LOVERS was selected as the best U.S. Short Film. The film was also awarded Best Cinematic Achievement.

WOW what an amazing experience. A thank you from me to everyone who was a part of this project. I would specifically acknowledge the Executive Producer–Carla Rexrode, the Producer–Adam Cushman, the Director Nell Teare, and the actors including Mark Thomas, Danelle Corbin, James Macpherson, and Wole Parks. Obviously a specific acknowledgement goes out to the editor Rosie Nakamura and cinematographer Colton Davie who truly create that Best Cinematic Achievement award as a possibility. The rest of the film’s eclectic, beautiful, and talented actors create a film where fashion meets music meets art. The story line is intense: Race, love, and law enforcement intertwine as a serial killer stalks Los Angeles.

I’m excited for the future of this Art House film which I co-wrote and that is based on my short story LOVE from my book White Cats Can Jump! But Black Cats Are Scarier On Halloween. On the cover of the book I describe it as “short stories of intrigue, horror, humor, and mystery”. Halloween is around the corner so I include the cover image of the book as a teaser. I actually think the back cover is scarier, but that is just me. I’m often amazed that from that one story, in that one book, a short film was developed by an amazingly talented group of creative people.

And while I talk of LIFF and LOVERS, I add that I had the opportunity to see dozens of short and feature films while there. It was very inspiring to see some truly amazing and inspirational works. I wish good fortune to all those who I met at LIFF. You inspired me to keep going.
