Will I see my beloved pets in Heaven? Let me go a bit on a limb here and tell you I’m no ones example of a GOOD Christian. I’m probably not even a Christian at all. I’m not sure there is a Heaven, and I’m unlikely to get in there if there is. Logically, my litter of various pets should enter there much more deservedly. Having just lost one of those little souls to death. I ask the theological question: do pets go to Heaven?

If you will pardon my limited (not nonexistent) biblical knowledge I’ll offer my opinion after I include some scripture.

In Genesis man and animals are described as living creatures and the word “soul” is ascribed to them. The soul (nephesh) is in both. Theologians argue a distinction between the types of soul so only man goes to Heaven, and so I’ll side with later sections of the bible to get argue that my pets get in, and the theologians be damned.

I’m a fan of the darker (and possibly more complicated) sections of the bible like Job and Revelation. In Revelation the boss comes back from Heaven and brings sheep, lions, eagles, and of course horses. So I guess those animals were up there. In a kinder gentler section, Isaiah 65:25 “(In Heaven) the wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent’s food.”

So maybe there are a lot animals in Heaven (including pets). OH YEAH, wait I got one more:
“For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity. All go to one place, all are from the dust, and all turn to dust again. Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of the beast goes down to the earth?” (Ecclesiastes 3:19-21)

I’m going against those bright theologians, hoping those little creatures I loved so dearly will be in a nice place after death. And less likely, but possibly I’ll get to see them there. Because as it says in Matthew 19:26 “…with God, all things are possible.”

Peace to all of you. And rest in peace to the little souls.
