What is summer? An intersection of road, trees, clouds, and a sprinkling of hope. Let’s get some!

“It was a morning in early summer.
A silver haze shimmered and trembled over the lime trees.
The air was laden with their fragrance.
The temperature was like a caress.
I remember–I need not recall–that I climbed up a tree
and felt suddenly immersed in “Itness.”
I did not call it that name.
I had no need for words.
It and I were one.”
~~Bernard Berenson

“May you live all the days of your life.”
~~Jonathan Swift

“Clouds. Think of the cooling shadows of summer
which benevolent nature spreads over her darling forests and gardens–
Summer shadows of wonderful depth and brilliancy
like the wings of a mother bird over her young.”
~~John Muir

“Enter through the narrow gate;
for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction,
and there are many who take it.
For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life,
and there are few who take it.”
~~Matthew 7.13-14

A few have asked the question:
If you were stranded on a deserted island what book or piece of writing would you want with you?
A bible? A philosophical writing? A lengthy educational treatise?
All worthy options.
Yet, I believe, if I could, I would ask for blank sheets and an endless supply of pens.
With that much time and solitude, even I might discover something valuable to write.
That it might never be found would not matter.

“‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers
that perches in the soul–
And sings the tune without words
and never stops– at all.”
~~Emily Dickinson

“Its not the load that breaks you down,
Its the way you carry it.”
~~Lena Horne

“There is in every true woman’s heart a speck of heavenly fire,
which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity,
but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.”
~~Washington Irving
